Batting first after winning the toss, South Africa slipped to 20-3 before Miller and Dewald Brevis, who hit 45, put on 97 in the rematch of the 2024 T20 World Cup final, won by India.

India's bowlers took late wickets with pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah recording brilliant figures of 3-15 as he peppered the batsmen with yorkers in the death overs.

At the start, Quinton de Kock was bowled by Bumrah for six and skipper Aiden Markram caught out for four off fellow quick Arshdeep Singh.

Ryan Rickelton also fell to left-armer Arshdeep before Miller silenced a crowd of around 80,000 in a stadium which has a reported capacity of 130,000.

Brevis joined the batting onslaught and the pair hit three sixes each.

Shivam Dube broke through to get Brevis, who faced 29 balls, caught at deep midwicket before Miller reached his fifty.

He departed attempting another big shot, off Varun Chakravarthy, having faced 35 balls and also hit seven fours

Tristan Stubbs had a late cameo that saw him crash an unbeaten 44 off 24 balls as he launched the final two balls of the innings both for six off Hardik Pandya.
