Mavs' Davis has surgery to repair detached retina: reports

Dallas Mavericks' Anthony Davis has undergone surgery to repair a detached retina after playing through the injury during the past NBA season, US media reported on Tuesday.

Text size:

The Dallas Morning News and ESPN, both citing unnamed sources, said Davis was expected to be available for the start of training camp before the 2025-26 season gets underway.

It will be Davis's first pre-season with the Mavs. He arrived in Dallas in a stunning mid-season trade sending Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Davis made a dazzling Dallas debut in February, scoring 26 points with 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocked shots before hobbling out of that game with an adductor strain.

The 10-time All-Star missed six weeks, returning to help the Mavs make the play-in tournament in which they were eliminated.

Davis is expected to be a key presence next season with star guard Kyrie Irving poised to miss much of the campaign as he recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The Mavs will also boast new talent Cooper Flagg, the 18-year-old collegiate standout who was the number one overall selection in last month's NBA draft.
